Marshall had become obsessed with swordsmanship. Ever since his defeat by the Noryette, he practiced with his sword from before dawn until close to midnight. A year later, he felt skilled enough to challenge the eldest Noryette to another duel. Marshall was defeated yet again. But that wasn't the worst of it: the Noryette's blade had pierced his lung. He fought for breath for a week, then passed into the arms of Nui.
